Create a Menu Item Group

A menu item group is a collection of similar menu items that is used as a building block to create a menu category. Examples of menu item groups include: Hot Sandwiches, Sides, Pies.

To create a menu item group:

  1. From the Xenial Portal, select Data Management.

  2. From the Ordering Settings menu, select Menu Layout.

  3. Select Menu Item Group.

  4. Select New Menu Item Group.

  5. Configure the record as needed.

Define General Settings for a Menu Item Group

To define general settings for a menu item group:

  1. Locate the General section of the menu item group record.

  2. In the Name field, type a name for the menu item group. This field is required.

  3. Set the Active toggle to "Active" if the menu item group is available for use at the site.

    • Multi-site users: Select the globe icon located to the right of the field to define values for each site.

Define POS Display Settings for a Menu Item Group

To define how a menu item group appears on the Ordering application:

  1. Locate the POS Display section of the menu item group record.

  2. In the Maximum Rows field, type the maximum number of menu rows to populate with the items in this item group.

    • Use the -/+ controls to adjust the value as needed.

    • If no value is specified (default), all items in the group are displayed regardless of how many rows are required to display all items.

  3. Set the Start on New Row toggle to On to always display items in this item group on a new row even when there is room to display the items on the same row as another group.

  4. In the Color 1 field, select the colored tile to choose the background color for the menu item buttons.

  5. In the Color 2 field, select the colored tile to choose the text color for the menu item buttons.

Add Items to a Menu Item Group

To select the items to include in a menu item group:

  1. Locate the Items section of the menu item group record.

  2. Select Add Items.

  3. Select the square next to each item to add to the group.

  4. Select Add [#] Items.

  5. Select and drag the control to the left of the listed items to sort them in the desired sequence.

Define Voice Settings for a Menu Item Group

To define a menu item group name and synonyms for voice ordering:

  1. Locate the Voice section of the menu item group record.

  2. In the Name field, type the primary menu item group name used with voice ordering, e.g. Burger Combos.

  3. In the Synonyms field, type typical pronunciations or alternate names for the menu item group (separated by a comma), e.g. Burger MealsBurger Combo Meals.
