Specific Digital Content Format Requirements
These requirements are in place to ensure that the Xenial Content Management Team is able to provide the best possible digital content experience.
Orientation, Resolution, and Aspect Ratio
Xenial products display digital content through Digital Menu Boards and Order Confirmation Units. While resolution and aspect ratio requirements are applicable regardless of screen size, certain configurations are limited by the device itself:
Xenial Digital Menu Boards (DMB) are available in a variety of sizes and configurations for indoor and outdoor purposes. DMB digital content supports all common configurations.
Xenial Order Confirmation Units (OCU) display useful order information to guests, and are available in several sizes such as 11.6" or 5.5". OCU digital content supports all common landscape configurations.
Note: due to the nature of OCU devices, portrait orientation is not applicable.

When working with digital content, it is necessary for the Parent Brand to provide all artwork and associated raw assets in the appropriate resolution and aspect ratio in relation to the placement of the content on the designated display. The table provides the required resolution and aspect ratio for common configurations.

Accepted File Formats
Always provide base images and concept art in the appropriate resolution and aspect ratio in relation to its placement on the display. Base images must use high-quality resolution; concept art may use a lower-quality resolution, but should always have the same aspect ratio as the provided base images.
The Xenial Content Management Team accepts the following file formats:
Adobe® Photoshop® (*.psd)
Adobe® Illustrator® (*.ai)
Adobe® InDesign® (*.indd)
Adobe® After Effects® (*.aep)
Note
Always provide complete packaged working files that include assets such as links and fonts.
Font Format
Fonts express the personality and the voice of the Parent Brand. A font-family describes both a specific and general font classification. Times New Roman, Courier, or Arial are examples of a specific font-family classification. Serif or Sans Serif are examples of a general font-family classification. Font-styles describe the styling of the font within the font-family, such as normal, italic, or oblique. Font-weight describes the weight of a font, such as normal or bold. Also, sometimes a combination of fonts are used to achieve the desired message.
When providing font files, always include the following:
The exact name of the typeface from the desired font-family.
The .ttf or .otf file, or a font image-set.
When providing a font image-set, follow the requirements listed below:
Always provide an image of the largest point-size used, typically 150-300 px.
Use consistent font-sizes and crop images to a uniform height.
Always allow a small amount of whitespace at the top/bottom of the font image.
Never crop the width of a font image.
Font files should always include the following letters, digits, and symbols:

Flat Artwork
Flat artwork refers to a single art file that does not contain layers. Flat artwork typically begins as multiple layers which are then merged into one background layer. Merging multiple layers into one background layer reduces image file sizes.
Pros: Smaller file sizes upload/download more quickly.
Cons: Flat artwork does not support dynamic/modular content as easily as layered artwork. Flat artwork that uses gradient, patterned, or photographic backgrounds are not edited as easily and may require the originating content agency to re-submit artwork for minor changes.
Layered Artwork
Layered artwork contains multiple, stacked layers in one file and is not flattened. Preserving the integrity of each art layer allows for more control and easier modifications. The Content Management Team prefers layered artwork when content is intended for dynamic/modular display.
Pros: Layered artwork provides more flexibility for future changes and allows for greater dynamic/modular content control.
Cons: Larger file sizes require more bandwidth to upload/download.
Note
Always provide complete packaged working files that include assets such as links and fonts.
Video
Video content holds the potential to improve customer experience and increase in-restaurant sales.
Always provide video content in the appropriate measurements in relation to the placement of the video on the digital display, using H.264 format.
FPS: Use 30 FPS for fullscreen video, the minimum accepted value is 1280x720 at 24 FPS.
Bitrate: Use a target bitrate of 5 Mbps, with a Constant Frame Rate (CFR) setting.
Format: All industry standard formats for MP4 videos are accepted, H.264/MPEG4
Note
Videos with a transparent background, often known as alpha-masked videos, are not supported.
Content Examples
Content is typically displayed in 1080p resolution (1920x1080; 16:9 Aspect Ratio) regardless of screen size.
The examples listed below illustrate the concepts of layered artwork, dynamic pricing, and rotating/alternating content.
